Personalised Nutritional Therapy for Children With Autism

Nutritionist in Rickmansworth

As a BANT and CNHC registered nutritionist in Rickmansworth, I can offer holistic, personalised nutritional therapy for people with autism who suffer from issues such as sleep deprivation, gut/digestive issues, reactions to food/chemicals, hyperactivity, learning difficulties, and many other conditions. We will identify the drivers or root causes of these symptoms and work closely together to improve your child's diet over time, reducing foods which may be contributing to many of the symptoms, and increasing diversity in the diet, leading to improved immunity, brain health, mood and sleep.

Evidence shows that a large proportion of children with autism will have nutrient deficiencies which can impact on neurological health, contributing to characteristics such as stimming, hyperactivity, lack of eye contact, sleep issues and learning difficulties. Brain health is key, and by reducing inflammation in the body, neurological symptoms can be improved over time.

If your child has autism and suffers from digestive issues of has any of the other concerned listed above, contact me for an initial chat to see how I could help. I operate as a Registered Nutritionist in Rickmansworth, Northwood, Amersham, Watford, and the surrounding area.

Can Nutritional Therapy Help My Autistic Child?

There is increasing evidence that Nutritional Therapy can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of children with autism and by using a range of assessments, including biomedical testing, we can help identify the root cause of your child’s symptoms. A large majority of children with autism will suffer from digestive issues as well as exhibiting a diverse range of symptoms such as stimming, behavioural issues, lack of progression or even regression, many of which stem from inflammation in the body. This can manifest as digestive issues, including diarrhoea or constipation, bloating or reflux, as well as histamine reactions such as hives, red cheeks/ears and also behavioural issues such as hyperactivity and depression.

Biomedical Testing

By using biomedical testing such as urine analysis (Organic Acid Test) and stool testing, coupled with a comprehensive assessment of medical history, symptoms, age of onset, diet etc., we can identify factors contributing to your child’s symptoms and work towards resolving them over time. Working with autism is more like running a marathon than a sprint and requires patience and perseverance, but there are many things that can be done to help your child.

Dietary Suggestions

Recommendations that may be suggested include increasing variety in your child’s diet, working with picky eaters or dealing with other feeding issues, identifying reducible toxins in the environment, alongside improving your child’s ability to detoxify these chemicals. This may include certain supplements which support the liver or improve the healthy balance of bacteria in the gut, as well as boosting neurotransmitter production, or calming nutrients which help with hyperactivity.

"

Nikki has helped my son enormously and I can't thank her enough for her help. Nikki did multiple tests on my son, interpreted them for us in a way that we could understand and advised us on supplements. When we repeated these biomedical tests our son had huge improvements with regard to certain microbiological parameters which were previously very high. He used to have very abnormal bowel movements, and thanks to Nikki they are now normal. I would not hesitate to recommend Nikki as a competent, trustworthy and professional nutritionist who works in a safe manner with the best interests of the client at heart.
